At Many Minds all of our performances are all relaxed.
This means that we warmly welcome people who find it difficult to follow the usual conventions of theatre behaviour. This can include: people with learning disabilities, movement disorders, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, other neurological conditions and people with Tourettes. Many other people may also choose to attend a relaxed performance, either as an access requirement or because they like the inclusive environment.
Relaxed performances take a laid-back approach to noises or movement coming from the audience. They give everyone permission to relax and respond naturally.
Anyone who needs to move or be noisy has the freedom to do so and that they can leave and come back in at any point.
Accessibility at our upcoming show: I’ve been waiting… at Theatre on the Downs 1st and 2nd Oct 2021
Theatre on the Downs have their own accessibility pages that we encourage everyone who may have access needs to read through – https://theatreonthedowns.co.uk/accessibility/
There is information on the Theatre on the Downs website about the venue and travelling to the venue.
Content warnings and quiet space:
Our content warning (including timings of any potentially challenging sections) will be displayed on posters at the venue on the days of the performance. Please feel free to take a picture of these, if helpful.
The Theatre on the Downs staff will take an inclusive approach from start to finish, and do their best to support your access needs.
Anyone who needs to move or be noisy has the freedom to do so and anyone can leave the auditorium and come back in at any point.
There is a quieter seating area outside the auditorium at the entry to the theatre where you can rest if you need to leave the theatre space during the performance. An usher can guide you there if you ask. You will find eye masks, ear plugs, water and tissues you are welcome to use while you are there.
Both performances will be captioned and captions will be available using the app The Difference Engine. You can find out more about The Difference Engine here on the Theatre on the Downs Accessibility page
